Very nice to have a live-in gardener who happens to be my husband too! We have a Christmas cactus that blooms in February and it has light pink blossoms and pale orange ones.
Orange and pink, how can that be? It is a mystery to me but one that I enjoy with all my heart. Orange and pink, what else is orange and pink?

It is just so incredibly sad to see the news of ANOTHER school shooting in this country. It is all just so heartbreaking...my Dad said that he watched the news all afternoon yesterday and they just kept showing them putting those young teens into waiting ambulances. "America's Gun Culture in 10 Charts" is a piece that I read on the BBC, you may read it here.

DeleteNice selection of photos there. Colour (outside of nature) is a fairly recent thing for humans when you look at old photos before the 1960s and see everyone dressed in monotone- a very grey muted world then as I suppose cheap fixing dyes affordable for the masses to wear only came in around then. I was looking at old photos of the city, in colour, in a book, and it may as well be black and white for all the difference it would make to the photos.Mainly brown, grey, black and white but nothing vivid at all.
ReplyDeleteFunny you should say this, when I was a kid I thought that the world was in black and white before I was born and then, somehow we got color! (Not that I thought I was so great that I caused color to be, just thought I was very lucky to have been born in the late 1950's!)

ReplyDeleteHow terribly tragic the latest shooting is! When will they ever cease? Something concrete, long-lasting, has to be done re the US gun culture. These mass shootings are heartbreaking...so, so disturbing. We can't treat them lightly.
Innocent lives are constantly at risk because of the insane actions of a minority of idiots!!!

DeleteIt is heartbreaking to see the photos of those who were killed in this latest shooting. I sincerely hope that our laws can be changed and that these kind of shootings will stop.

ReplyDeleteAh yes, the color of a seashell, that is just right for orange and pink. (Pale orange is really a peachy color, I guess, but I love that shade, whatever it is called!)

DeleteThe Florida school shooting was all over the news here on TV last night, too. Those poor families and friends who have lost someone that way! Imagine you send your son or daughter to school in the morning, maybe you have even squabbled with them about some homework they didn't do, and they never return...
ReplyDeleteThe pink and orange pictures so light up what is a very grey and wet morning here! You should have seen the incredible sunrise yesterday from my kitchen window... I took a quick snap with my mobile phone but it does not even remotely do the real view justice.
Quite by coincidence, on Wednesday afternoon I tried on a dress that had the most beautiful pink and soft orange flower pattern, a bit "Asian" style... I ended up buying two other dresses (one in view of my birthday next month), because the pink-orange one would have needed more bust than I have to look good, but the fabric was great and would not look amiss on your post :-)
It is just so sad and heartbreaking to see the faces of the victims, I would like to have known every single one of them, they just all seemed so nice, and some of them only 14 years old. I just hope that somehow THIS shooting might be the one that will make our lawmakers pay attention and do something to prevent this from ever, EVER happen again!!
DeleteI just wanted to show the different colors on the cactus, but then, it reminded me of the photo of the pier and the train in Eastbourne, and I thought that they somehow went together...and it seemed nice and comforting to me to look at the colors and I wanted to share them here I am glad you like them too.

I was horrified to hear about yet another shooting in a school.
I fear it will never end until mentally disturbed people are unable to have such easy access to guns. Guns just scare the life out of me.

I am not surprised that we have the same color blooms on our cacti, we have such good taste!
Yes, the school shooting was a heartbreaking thing, you can't buy booze until you are 21 but you are allowed to buy an automatic rifle. We have to have a license to drive a car, why not have a test (including a mental test) before being allowed to buy a gun. Just common sense laws would help, I think.
I always love orange and pink. The kitchen curtains in our first house were orange and pink and they always cheered me up even though my parents found them a bit gaudy I think! :)

ReplyDeleteHow funny you say that about red and green...I find that I can't use red and green at Christmas anymore, I find blues much more calming and lots of silver with it for Christmas. (I don't mind touches of red but NOT with green!) LOL
